Technology You Can Expect Within the Next 10 Years

Technology You Can Expect Within the Next 10 Years

Technology You Can Expect Within the Next 10 Years

With technological advancements being released by the boatload over the past few years, it’s hard for people to really appreciate how great a lot of the current automotive advancements are. Even though we’re not in the Jetsons’ era yet (although it feels like we should be), you can expect a plethora of mind-blowing automotive technologies to be released in the next 10 years. Here are a few tech advances that we think will become standard in the next few years:

1. Sophisticated on-board warning systems

On-board rear-view cameras have been all the rage for the last couple of years. In fact, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration have proposed to make it a standard feature on all new cars by 2014; so it’s no surprise that automakers would want to go above and beyond with warning detection systems. As a result manufacturers, including Honda, are starting to add lane departure, collision-mitigation, pedestrian-detection and night vision warning systems in their lineup.

2. Vehicle-to-Vehicle Communication

Some vehicle-to-vehicle communication systems being developed right now use an advanced form of Wi-Fi technology to alert you of the vehicles that surround you. These efforts are another attempt at reducing traffic accidents and make roads safer.

3. Voice control

Advanced infotainment systems will become a standard and be built-out much deeper. Drivers and passengers will be able to control virtually everything via voice commands, from choosing songs to sending SMS and getting location directions.

4. Materials

One major facet that will change throughout the years is the materials used to make cars. As efficiency becomes more and more sought after, durable and lightweight materials like carbon fiber will be increasingly used in production as they give vehicles higher MPG rankings while maintaining the same strength.

Although these advancements have not yet come to fruition, it’s safe to say that manufacturers are working on it. Don’t be surprised if something from left-field is developed either because the automotive industry is in a newer/safer-technology race, so it’s only a matter of time before we see it.

Which of these features would you like on your next Honda?

Honda Awarded Several 2012 Brand Awards Courtesy of Kelley Blue Book

At this year’s 2012 Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards, Honda was the recepient of the Most Trusted Brand and Best Value Brand awards.

Honda was awarded the aforementioned awards based on consumer’s perception data that was gathered via Kelley Blue Books’ “Brand Watch” study. The Kelley Blue Book Awards have a history of honoring automotive manufacturers who have quality vehicle models, captivating marketing campaigns as well as positive word of mouth.

John Mendel, American Honda’s Executive VP of Sales, accepted both awards from KBB on behalf of Honda and stated that, “We(Honda) are honored to accept two awards that point so directly to Honda’s core tenets. With Honda constantly striving to earn trust by providing the finest overall ownership value, it’s inspiring to see those efforts resonating with consumers.”

Honda has won the Best Value Brand for two straight years which is remarkable considering the fact that the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards are only in their  fifth year!

You know being a car dealership in Austin is tough business. Growing Technology, Growing Distractions?

By Howdy Honda | Posted in Honda Technology, Tips and Tricks on Thursday, April 12th, 2012 at 9:00 AM
Growing Technology, Growing Distractions?

Growing Technology, Growing Distractions?

Lawmakers across the U.S. have made a strong push to ban cell-phone use while driving. With no possible way of truly enforcing this, lawmakers and car manufacturers are teaming up to develop new technologies that generate fewer distractions, or do they?

Two men from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology(MIT), Bryan Reimer and Bruce Mehler, who work at MIT’s AgeLab recently conducted a study on driver awareness. The subjects ranged from age 20-69 and were asked to follow along with number-based repetition tasks that got harder as they went on. All drivers underwent this test while going through the same stretch on I-93 north of Boston driving the same SUV. What both men found is that, “Just because you have your eyes on the road doesn’t mean you have your mind on the road.” Mehler and Reimer found that many of the subjects, while carrying out the tasks, were left gazing straight-ahead instead of scouring the road ahead for possible threats.

Now think about much of the technology that is being developed to reduce cell-phone use in cars including voice-controlled infotainment systems as well as hands-free phones. Although they allow the driver to stay focused on the road ahead, it takes away from the driver’s cognitive capacity, which is what the two researchers say is the problem.  Reimer specifically stated  that, “Policymakers need to be very aware that it’s the cognitive demand that’s the issue, not the issue of holding a phone. Hands-free technology does not make driving and technology safe. It can make it even more problematic when people perceive they’re doing something that’s safer.”

This just re-solidifies the fact that the only thing that can truly control the distractions on the road are drivers themselves.

Honda WOW Concept Makes Pet Owners Drool

By IrisClaudio | Posted in Honda in the News, Honda Vehicles on Monday, April 9th, 2012 at 10:08 PM

Honda WOW Concept
As a dog owner, I want this Honda now!

The Honda W.O.W. (Wonderfully Open-Hearted Wagon) concept is Honda’s interpretation of the ultimate pet owner mobile. Originally revealed to the Japanese market, we are wondering what is taking Honda so long to bring this concept to the U.S.!

This concept vehicle originated from the demand of pet-friendly conveniences as the Japanese started to own more and more dogs. Although from the pictures it looks like a minivan, the WOW is actually smaller than the Honda Civic. Many design elements in the WOW are specifically designed with pets in mind like special carrier compartments and accommodating space in the back.

This WOW concept is such a great idea and incredibly unique! I think many people in Austin and the U.S. would appreciate this lifestyle design mentality brought by Honda.

Now don’t start getting overly excited yet my animal-loving friends, because the WOW is still very much a concept and not scheduled to go into production any time soon. Can we all go to Honda HQ and put on our best sad-puppy face? Maybe that’ll get them moving.

Check out what some people on the Twitterverse had to say about the WOW and the 2005 video that describes the concept:

2013 Honda Crosstour Unveiled at 2012 New York Auto Show

As you’ve seen here on our blog and all over the news in the past few days, Honda just unveiled the 2013 Honda Crosstour concept at the 2012 New York Auto Show. The 2013 Honda Crosstour is a mid-cycle refresh and it will closely resemble the 2012 model, but offer some new features that haven’t been present in years prior.

How powerful will it be? Underneath the hood of the new 2013 Crosstour you can expect to find either one of two powertrains. The standard option will be a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine paired to a five-speed automatic transmission. This engine is good for 192 horsepower as well. If you look for a little more power, Honda equips the Crosstour with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is outfitted to a six-speed automatic transmission. FWD is standard, with AWD as an option available for both.

What can I find inside? Not much has been said about the new Crosstour’s interior, but a few have been discussed. The new features will include; higher-quality materials used, 8-inch color display entertainment system and keyless ignition.

Although the new 2013 Honda Crosstour won’t be available until later this fall, don’t hesitate to check out the 2012 Honda Crosstour first. Take the Montopolis exit on E. Ben White (Hwy 71), we’ll be to the right about a mile ahead; call ahead to 512-443-4300 so we can have the Crosstour ready for you to test drive.

Rear-View Camera To Become Standard For 2013 Honda Models

By Howdy Honda | Posted in Honda Accord, Honda CR-V, Honda in the News, Honda Models, Honda Odyssey, Honda Pilot, Honda Ridgeline, Honda Safety, Honda Technology, Honda Vehicles, New Honda Cars on Monday, April 9th, 2012 at 2:00 AM

Rearview camera on 2013 honda austin tx
Honda just announced that their 2013 vehicle models will feature a rear-view camera standard moving forward.

Vicki Poponi, American Honda’s Assistant VP of Product Planning, stated how important safety is to Honda, affirming that, “At Honda, we feel that this visibility feature will be important to many families and we’re widely applying it even before we may be required to do so. In addition to the wide application of the rear-view camera technology, Honda is also introducing several new features for enhanced driver safety, visibility and security in model-year 2013.”

Getting more into specifics, Honda announced that 94% of their total 2013 lineup will be offering the rear-view camera standard, leaving very few vehicles without it. The 2012 Honda CR-V already offers it as a standard feature and 100% of the 2013 Honda truck lineup will come standard with the rear-view camera. This means that all trim levels of the 2013 CR-V, Crosstour, Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline will have this safety feature.

The rear-view camera will certainly offer drivers extra visibility, but it isn’t the only new safety feature on the 2013 Honda lineup. Honda is adding Forward Collision Warning and Lane Departure Warning systems as optional safety features. These two warning technologies will make their debuts on both the 2013 Honda Accord and the 2013 Honda Crosstour.

Are you looking forward to the 2013 Honda lineup?
